Configuring the PXIe-5841 in Hardware Configuration Utility
NI recommends using Hardware Configuration Utility to perform initial hardware configuration.

Open Hardware Configuration Utility.
The PXIe-5841 appears in the system pane automatically.If the PXIe-5841 does not appear automatically, do the following:
- Click the + button or, in the menu, select .
- Find the modules of your instrument in the Discovered pane and click Add.

Record the name Hardware
Configuration Utility assigns to the PXIe-5841 or, if desired, provide a custom
name to the PXIe-5841.
Use this name when programming the PXIe-5841.
- Optional:
Associate the hardware modules that compose your instrument.
Tip You can expand Hardware associations in the configuration pane and click Available associations to see illustrations of the valid configurations for PXIe-5841 instruments.
- In the system pane, select the PXIe-5841 module to associate.
- In the Hardware associations section of the configuration pane, click either RF In LO or RF Out LO and choose the PXIe-5655 to associate with the PXIe-5841 module.

Validate that your instrument is installed and connected correctly by selecting
the PXIe-5841 module of your instrument in the
system pane and choosing either of the following:
Option Description Verify associations Expand the Hardware associations area of the configuration pane and click Verify associations. Note Verify associations performs an intermediate self-test.Self-test - Expand the Troubleshooting area of the configuration pane and click Self-test.
- Select Intermediate and then click Ok to run the test.
Hardware Configuration Utility reports when the hardware setup is validated.
