Configuring the Hardware in MAX

You can use Measurement & Automation Explorer (MAX) to configure your NI hardware. MAX is automatically installed with NI-RFSA and NI-RFSG.

  1. Launch MAX.
  2. In the configuration tree, expand Devices and Interfaces to see the list of installed NI hardware.
MAX lists all installed modules under the name of their associated chassis.
  3. Expand your Chassis tree item.
PXIe-5841 devices appear as NI-RIO modules in the list. The default names of your device may vary.
Note If your module is not listed, refer to the Troubleshooting section of this document.
  4. Record the identifier MAX assigns to the hardware. Use this identifier when programming the PXIe-5841.
Notice When you install, uninstall, or move an NI-RIO module in your system, resource identification of your NI-RIO devices may change. Whenever any of these changes occur, verify resource identification of all your NI-RIO modules in MAX, and, if necessary, make changes to your software and documentation.
  5. (Optional) Associate the hardware modules that comprise your instrument.
    • Select the PXIe-5841 you want to associate.
    • If you are using the PXIe-5655 as an LO source, open the Associated Devices section, and select the PXIe-5655 from both the RF In LO list for use with RF IN and the RF Out LO list for use with RF OUT. The values you select from the RF In LO and RF Out LO lists should be the same.
  6. Click Save in the MAX toolbar.
Note For detailed information about MAX, refer to the Measurement & Automation Explorer Help by selecting Help » MAX Help.
Note Module associations may be lost when you move the modules to different chassis slots.
