TestStand Deployment Utility
You can launch the TestStand Deployment Utility in the following ways:
- Select Tools»Deploy TestStand System in the TestStand Sequence Editor .
- (Windows 8.1) Click the NI Launcher tile on the Start screen and select TestStand»Tools»TestStand Deployment Utility .
- (Windows 10 or 7) Select Start»All Programs»National Instruments»TestStand»Tools»TestStand Deployment Utility .
Use the deployment utility to create a deployable image or a
patch deployment
of a TestStand system and an optional installer. The deployable image can contain
sequence files
,
code modules
,
process models
and supporting files, user interface applications, configuration files, and step types and supporting files the TestStand system uses. The installer can contain all files from a deployable image or contain only a subset of files to create a patch deployment for a previously deployed image.
Note
You must save the TestStand deployment specification file (
.tsd
) and the full deployment installer to create a patch deployment and installer.
You can also use the deployment utility to include the
TestStand Runtime
and supporting files, LabVIEW and LabWindows/CVI Run-Time Engines, and hardware drivers in the installer you create.
If the deployment includes LabVIEW files, you must have the LabVIEW development system with the Application Builder installed to automatically detect dependencies of top-level VIs and create a deployable image or installer. You do not need the Application Builder to use the deployment utility if you do not deploy LabVIEW files or if you enable the Include without Processing Item or Dependencies option on the
Distributed Files
tab of the deployment utility. You can also configure the deployment utility to remove VI block diagrams or to lock the VIs you deploy. The installer that the deployment utility creates can also register ActiveX servers, replace existing files on the target computer, and create program shortcuts.
Note
For each system that you deploy, you must activate a
TestStand license
, typically a unique copy of the TestStand Base Deployment System License or the TestStand Debug Deployment Environment License.
Note
The TestStand Deployment Utility does not require a license for build or analysis purposes, as defined by the License Agreement.
The deployment utility window contains the following tabs:
- Mode —Use this tab to create a full deployment or a patch deployment and to specify related settings for each type of deployment.
- System Source —Use this tab to specify the workspace file or directory that specifies which files to deploy and the location to create the deployment image.
- Distributed Files —Use this tab to view the files included in the deployment and configures the installer destination location and settings for each file.
- Installer Options —Use this tab to configure installer settings for the deployment and specifies which components to include from TestStand and other National Instruments software, such as hardware drivers.
- Package Installer Options —Use this tab to configure package-based distribution settings.
- Build Status —Use this tab to view progress and log information when analyzing files to include in a deployment and when building a deployment image and installer.
The deployment utility also contains the following buttons:
- Load —Loads the deployment settings from a previously saved ( .tsd ) file.
- Save —Saves the current deployment settings to the currently loaded ( .tsd ) file. When you create a patch deployment, the deployment utility appends the patch deployment information to the .tsd file.
- Save As —Saves the current deployment settings to a new ( .tsd ) file.
- New —Resets the current deployment settings to a new ( .tsd ) file.
- Build —Creates a deployable image and installer, according to the settings on the Installer Options tab.
- Done —Exits the deployment utility.
