Installation Instructions

Download the DIAdem installer from ni.com/downloads. NI software includes NI Package Manager to handle the installation. Refer to the NI Package Manager Help for more information about installing, removing, and upgrading NI software using NI Package Manager.

After installing your software, you will need to activate it. Activating your software verifies the licenses associated with your NI account, so you can start using your software. You have different options for activation, based on your software and how it was purchased. Please visit ni.com/activate for more information on activation methods.

Notes

  • If Windows Update is enabled, the installation process might hang if Windows Update interferes with the installation of Microsoft Visual C++ 2015 Run-Time. Visit ni.com/r/exjq43 for more information and steps to resolve this issue.
  • If you purchased this product with an NI Product Bundle, use the installation media that shipped with your purchase to install this product.

Product Security and Critical Updates

Visit ni.com/security to view and subscribe to receive security notifications about NI products. For information about critical updates from NI, refer to Available Critical and Security Updates for NI Software.

New Features

DIAdem NAVIGATOR, DataFinder, Data Portal

  • If a search for channel groups or channels has been performed, the context menu of the highlighted search result can be used to load the associated file containing the groups or channels found. It is also possible to select several search results and load their files.
  • When copying properties of the internal data using the AddProperties method, you can specify a channel or channel group as the source instead of a properties collection. This new option works faster and is especially recommended for many properties.

DIAdem VIEW

  • Via the new display type Python graphic you can use a Python script to load or create a graphic depending on the cursor position and thereby extend your VIEW layout with any individual displays and diagram types. You can generate the graphic using a Python library, or you can perform an image export of a REPORT layout containing any REPORT objects.
  • As in REPORT, the OnLayoutLoaded event is now also available in VIEW, which is triggered after loading a layout. You can implement it using Python or VBS.

DIAdem ANALYSIS

  • When resampling, NoValues can be included in the interpolation if desired. This is supported by the two commands ChnResampleFreqBased and ChnResampleChnBased.
  • The processing speed of the resampling functions has been significantly increased.
  • The ChnPeakFind command, for finding local minimum and maximum values, can now find up to 2 billion values.

DIAdem REPORT

  • When exporting a PDF for a layout, Microsoft print to PDF is also offered. You can select Microsoft PDF export from the toolbar or call it in a script using the new command ExportToPDFMSPrint.
  • In the legend of a pie chart or ring diagram, you can use the two new variables CurrRelValue and CurrAbsValue to display the relative and absolute values of the pie sectors using a DIAdem expression.
  • If you want to edit an empty axis system, spider axis system or 2D table without creating channels or curves, this is possible by clicking the Skip button in the dialog for new entries. This will take you directly to the settings dialog of the REPORT object.
  • For a global color palette, the transparency for several colors can be set at the same time in the dialog for common settings. Thus, for markers in a 2D axis system, you no longer need to enter equal transparency values individually.

DIAdem DAC

  • When acquiring GPS data, the global navigation satellite systems Galileo, GLONASS, Beidou and Quasi-Zenith Satellite System (QZSS) are now also supported.
  • Also when importing GPS data from file, the global navigation satellite systems Galileo, GLONASS, Beidou and Quasi-Zenith Satellite System (QZSS) are supported.

DIAdem SCRIPT

  • Many Python code examples have been revised and improved in the help.

Behavior Changes and Notes

  • As of DIAdem 2023 Q2, DIAdem will no longer install Python. If you want to use Python scripts in DIAdem, install a Python version supported by DIAdem, which can be found at https://www.python.org/ . Make sure that the Python module PyWin32 is installed.
  • The names of Python user commands must be written in capital letters, such as ON_REPORT_LAYOUT_LOADED.
  • In Python, the parameters of a user function that receive a return value cannot be evaluated by DIAdem. Choose VBS syntax for these user commands.
  • If DIAdem 2023 Q2 is installed on a computer that already contains DIAdem 2022 Q2 or DIAdem 2022 Q4, the search area for the 2023 examples is no longer automatically created in My DataFinder. Add the directory C:\Program Files\National Instruments\DIAdem 2023\Examples manually to be able to search in the example data. Alternatively, you can index the files from My DataFinder, which will automatically create the search area for the examples.
  • For the MyDataFinder in DIAdem 2023 Q2, any index files from earlier DIAdem versions must be regenerated. This happens automatically when you start DIAdem if your previous DIAdem installation is DIAdem 2022 Q2 or older. Depending on how many files are to be indexed, this may take quite some time. If you had already installed DIAdem 2022 Q4, you have to start the indexing manually.
  • As of the DIAdem 2019 installation, the 64-bit version of My DataFinder replaces earlier 32-bit installations. The configuration of My DataFinder takes place in DIAdem versions 2019 or later in DIAdem. In DIAdem versions later than 2019, you configure My DataFinder using the tray icon in the Windows taskbar. C ++ DataPlugins, which are only available in a 32-bit version, need to upgrade to a 64-bit version.
  • As DIAdem 2018, you can no longer connect to My DataFinder from a remote computer.
  • Scripts written for the use on SystemLink analysis automation are subject to certain restrictions. Refer to Analysis Automation, General in the Help, for further information.
  • When you activate DIAdem, you must create a NI user profile at ni.com. The evaluation period is now 7 days without a user profile. If you create a user profile, this period is extended to 45 days.
  • When loading a DAC block diagram, DIAdem now checks whether the block diagram contains outdated blocks. The block diagram can still run with these blocks, however the outdated blocks are identified with a label. Please replace these by up-to-date blocks because in future versions the earlier blocks will no longer be supported.
  • In order to use the following DIAdem drivers the following NI software components must be installed:
    Driver Components Version
ADCS Automotive Diagnostic Command Set >= 18.0
    DAQmx driver NI-DAQmx >= 17.0
ECU MC ECU Measurement and Calibration Toolkit >= 18.0
    XNET NI-XNET >= 15.0
Older hardware is no longer supported by the modified minimum requirements, including NI PCI-MIO-16XE-10 and NI PCI-MIO-16XE-50 in the PCMCIA version and NI 6533 as a DAQ card.
  • The 3D model display type in DIAdem-VIEW is no longer available as of DIAdem 2019.
  • Since DIAdem 2018, the ASAM-ODS6 standard is supported in order to have read access to the data store of an AOP6 server.
  • Very old commands and variables, which have been replaced by new technologies, are marked as obsolete in DIAdem. This means that these commands and variables are no longer supported in one of the upcoming DIAdem versions. On the DIAdem help page DIAdem»Searching for Obsolete Commands and Variables you can find a script which checks your scripts for obsolete identifiers.
  • The previously obsolete commands DataCheckChnls and DataSelChn have been permanently removed from DIAdem. Use the Selection collection instead.
  • If you install an earlier DIAdem version after you have installed the current DIAdem version, the PDF export of the earlier version might not function correctly. You can solve the issue by copying the files acfpdf*.* and cdintf*.dll from the current DIAdem program folder into the program folder of the earlier DIAdem version.
  • From version 2018 onwards, DIAdem imports VBS DataPlugins in encrypted form by default. You can only import and then process a DataPlugin unencrypted if you select Import DataPlugin in the DataPlugin Settings dialog box.
  • The images you use in the Picture for Tree SUD property must have a minimum size of 16*16 pixels.
  • You cannot use VIs that require .NET assemblies from DIAdem through the LVRuntime object.

Preview Features

Preview features give an outlook on features in future versions. The functions to be unlocked are still under development and the user interface, the API, or the scope of functions may change. Enable this function in the Settings»DIAdem Settings» Preview Features dialog box.

  • DIAdem supports complex channels. You can load and save complex channels. You can convert numeric channels to complex channels and vice versa.

Accessing the Documentation

For more information on DIAdem, go to the DIAdem help Help»Contents.

Finding Examples

Use Help»Examples in DIAdem to start the DIAdem ExampleFinder. You can find DIAdem examples in the examples directory below the program directory. You can modify examples to suit your needs, or you can copy and paste parts of the examples into your own files.

Automating the Installation of NI Products

You can automate the installation of most NI products using command-line arguments to suppress some or all of the installer user interface and dialog boxes.

If the NI product you are installing uses Microsoft .NET 4.6.2, the .NET installer may run before any NI software installs and may require a reboot before the installation of NI software begins. To avoid a .NET reboot, install .NET 4.6.2 separately before you install NI software.

For more information about automating the installation of NI products, refer to Automating an Installer in the NI Package Manager Help.

Using NI Software with Microsoft Windows 11

Microsoft Windows 11 is the latest version of the Windows operating system and features significant changes compared to previous versions. For more information about NI support for Windows 11, refer to NI Product Compatibility for Microsoft Windows 11.

Using NI Software with Microsoft Windows 10

For more information about NI support for Windows 10, refer to Compatibility of NI Products with Microsoft Windows 10.

Unsupported Windows Operating Systems

DIAdem no longer supports Windows Vista/XP/7/8.x, Windows Server 2003/2008/2012, or any 32-bit Windows operating system. Versions of this product that ship after May 1, 2021 may not install or execute correctly on these operating systems. For detailed information about NI operating system support, visit http://www.ni.com/r/win32bitsupport.
