NI Nigel AI

Nigel™ AI is the AI optimized for test. It enhances engineering efficiency through intelligent automation while keeping you in control of every engineering decision.

An AI Built for Test

Nigel is unlike any other AI. It’s specifically built for test and measurement applications with advanced test expertise and integration into NI software.

Nigel Is Optimized for Test

Nigel AI is built on the latest industry models and enhanced with our 50 years of test and measurement expertise. Nigel leverages the leading industry models to take advantage of the rapid evolving technology, so you don’t have to compromise between solutions. Nigel has been taught test methodologies, test system design, and data analysis, so you get trusted information to help you advance your project. Unlike other AIs, Nigel will give you highly relevant technical answers for test application questions, because it was custom-built for that purpose.

Nigel Is Integrated in NI Software

Nigel is built into our software so that you can get help as you work. With Nigel, you can generate code and sequences from a prompt, debug your applications with an expert at your side, review projects faster, and much more. Nigel has direct access to product documentation and receives the context of your project, making answers more reliable and better helping you as you develop. Answers are not generic; they’re specific for you. Nigel will provide you with clearer, more applicable guidance than other AIs because it understands your work.

An Agentic Future

The rate of change in AI for both adoption and capability is unprecedented. The Nigel short-term roadmap promises the ability to orchestrate workflows. Use Nigel as your agent, from planning to system-level debug, results analysis, and test station management. Using Nigel in this way will abstract the execution of multiple tasks and accelerate development, enabling you to work at an “outcome level,” not a “task level.” Nigel will empower you to spend your time where it matters most—your product.

Software Integration

Important Information for Using Nigel AI

Security

  • Nigel is built on Emerson’s secure and robust cloud operations platform. The underlying models used in Nigel are best-in-class models that a user can select from for different tasks. Nigel is hosted on Microsoft Azure, which makes enterprise-grade privacy and security guarantees. Nigel never uses your data for training large language models. Learn more.

Usage and Activation

  • To access Nigel, you must have a valid license for the NI software and an active software service agreement. Software service is included with single-seat licenses (both subscription and perpetual), volume license agreements, and enterprise agreements. For perpetual licenses, the first year of software service is included and can be renewed annually. Before using Nigel, ensure your NI User Account is linked to an eligible license type. Learn how.
  • Similar to most AI tools in industry, Nigel has a usage limit per user account. These limits vary by feature and are tuned to minimize impact on normal day-to-day usage. Refer to the user manual for your specific product to learn more.

Code and Sequence Generation

  • In LabVIEW 2026 Q3, Nigel can create VIs for you from a prompt. This feature is currently focused on creating measurement code for the hardware you have connected to your system. In TestStand 2026 Q3, Nigel can create sequences using a specifications document that you provide. It can map existing code modules or create placeholder code modules that you can edit to complete your tests. Additional generative and other authorship and agentic capabilities will continue to be added over the next several releases. We continue working to ensure Nigel generative capabilities are optimized for your critical test applications.

Global Availability

  • Nigel can be used anywhere in the world with an internet connection and access to ni.com.
  • It supports many languages for conversational use. As with all generative AI models, the same prompt in different languages might result in a different response.

AI Limitations

  • AIs, including Nigel, are emerging technologies. These advisors are in their infancy, so they can make mistakes. Nigel is here to advise you, but it is important to review responses for accuracy.
