Finding Important Troubleshooting Files for Volume Licensing Issues

Overview

This document will help you troubleshoot issues with files used in volume licensing. You may be seeing issues with activating your Volume License, having trouble with your Volume License Server, or you may need to find your lmgrd log file, configuration file, options file, data file, and/or license file.

Note: The required troubleshooting files will be stored in different locations depending on the operating system. The following tables show the default locations for these files on various operating systems.

File Descriptions

  • Lmgrd log - This log is intended for debug purposes only. In order to capture accurate license usage data into an organized repository, please enable report logging.
  • License File - This file contains server, vendor, and individual license information.
  • Options File - This file contains user groups and the type and version of software assigned to those user groups.
  • Configuration File - The configuration file logs the settings used by VLM.This file is only used by versions of VLM prior to VLM 2.1.1.
  • Data File - VLM stores and accesses information in this folder about client computers to facilitate communication with the server.
