Beginning in 2016, some NI products are built with Visual Studio 2015, which can depend on the Universal C Runtime in Windows. If the target system does not contain the Universal C Runtime in Windows, which can occur on Windows 7 SP1, Windows 8.1, Windows Server 2012 R2 and Windows Server 2008 R2 systems, the following error message may appear when launching the application:
The program cannot start because api-ms-win-crt-runtime-l1-1-0.dll is missing from the computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem.
Some 2016 NI products, such as LabVIEW 2016, also crash on any launch attempt after installation without providing any specific error message.
This update delivers the same fix outlined in KB2999226 (Update for Universal C Runtime in Windows) from the Microsoft website.
