Frequently Asked Questions

Do academic single-seat licenses include technical support, training, or other benefits?

Academic single-seat licenses do not include direct technical support or added benefits such as training or education credits. Users are encouraged to use the NI Community for troubleshooting and peer support. For added benefits, consider upgrading to an Academic Volume License (AVL)

As a professor, do I need single-seat licenses for students on campus?

If students are required to use university machines, you will need to purchase an Academic Volume License (AVL) or single-seat academic licenses. For students’ personal machines, use the student install option from the campus Academic Volume License or LabVIEW Community Edition.

How do community editions differ from an academic single-seat license?

Community editions are free and designed for students to use on their own personal machine. They are available only for LabVIEW and G Web Development Software. In contrast, academic single-seat licenses offer a broader range of software and are suitable for formal teaching and research.

Can I upgrade from a single-seat license to an Academic Volume License (AVL)?

Yes, as your program grows, you can transition from single-seat licenses to an AVL. An AVL offers more benefits like on-demand training and education service credits. Consider upgrading to an AVL if you need five (5) licenses or more. Contact your local NI distributor

What happens if my single-seat academic license expires?

After an academic single-seat license expires, you will lose access to the software. You will need to renew your license to continue using the software, and you will need to renew before the license expiration date to avoid any disruption in your work.
