Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) is the computer-to-computer exchange of business documents in standardized, electronic formats. National Instruments uses EDI as part of a larger business strategy, aimed at utilizing technology to achieve certain business objectives and strong business relationships with its suppliers and customers.
EDI enables trading partners to be faster, more accurate and more cost-efficient, especially in comparison to using paper-based systems to manage the wide-range of business documents, including forecasts, purchase orders, invoices, and payments. When documents are sent electronically as EDI transactions, they can be exchanged between two companies anywhere in the world within minutes. The standardized formats make it possible for organizations to exchange information easily and without confusion.
