Configuring NI VLM Ports

You can change two ports on the volume license server–the Main Licensing Port and the Communication Port.

Note Ensure that any firewalls allow communication on the license server machine and on client machines, on the Main Licensing Port, and on the Communication Port. Also ensure that no other programs are using the ports that you select.

Setting NI VLM Port Numbers

Complete the following steps to change the Main Licensing Port and Communication Port of the volume license server.

  1. Select the Tools»Preferences menu item.
  2. Select General on the navigation tree.
  3. Enter the port you want to use in the Main Licensing Port option. Ports range from 1-64000, inclusive.
Note If the Main Licensing Port is not set to the default value of 27000, clients need to set both the server name and Main Licensing Port number in NI License Manager. The Volume License Installer wizard automatically configures client machines to use the Main Licensing Port.
  4. Enter the port number you want to use in the Communication Port option. You do not need to change this port unless there is a conflict or a firewall on the license server. If blank, the volume license server randomly chooses a port each time the server starts.
  5. Click OK.

If you change the Main Licensing Port after it has been set, each client must update the port in their copy of NI License Manager. For more information on changing server ports on client machines, refer to Using a Network License Server in NI License Manager Help, which you can access from Help » Contents menu item in NI License Manager.
