Lock/Unlock File Dialog Box
TestStand launches the Lock File dialog box when you attempt to lock a protected file. TestStand launches the Unlock File dialog box when you attempt to edit or save a protected sequence file that is locked or when you double-click the lock icon in a non-viewable list view of the Sequence File window or the
Variables
pane in the Execution window. The
Sequence File Properties
dialog box specifies whether a protected sequence file is editable or viewable when locked.
Note
TestStand supports password protecting sequence files to deter editing and viewing within the
TestStand Sequence Editor
and User Interfaces that use the TestStand User Interface (UI) Controls. The TestStand API limits access to a file protected from viewing but cannot prevent access to the file content during execution. National Instruments does not recommend using passwords as the only way of protecting intellectual property.
The Lock File dialog box contains the following options:
- New Password —Enter a password to lock the file. If the file was previously locked, the dialog box displays a masked version of the current password.
- Re-enter Password —Re-enter the password for confirmation.
The Unlock File dialog box contains the following options:
- Password —Enter a password to unlock the file.
-
Remember Password
—Select one of the following options:
- No —TestStand does not remember the password.
- For Current Session —TestStand stores the password in the password cache but does not persist the password between TestStand sessions. Each time you attempt to open a locked sequence file, TestStand tries to unlock it using the passwords in the password cache. Use the Clear Password Cache button on the Preferences tab of the Station Options dialog box to clear the password cache.
- For Current and Future Sessions —TestStand stores the password in the password cache and persists the password between TestStand sessions. Each time you attempt to open a locked sequence file, TestStand tries to unlock it using the passwords in the password cache. Use the Clear Password Cache button on the Preferences tab of the Station Options dialog box to clear the password cache.
