Calibrating the System with the S-Parameter Measurement Panel

Use the Calibration wizard in the S-parameter measurements panel in InstrumentStudio to guide you through a system-level calibration.

Before you complete the following steps, you must self-calibrate each VST, complete the hardware assembly, and commit your configuration settings to the hardware.
  1. Open the S-parameter measurements panel in InstrumentStudio.
  2. Click Calibrate.
    The Calibration wizard opens.
Note If the Calibrate button is not enabled, ensure that you committed the configuration settings to the hardware.
  3. Select the type of calibration to perform from the Calibration Method drop-down menu.
  4. Verify the calibration parameters, calibration files, and averaging settings in the Configuration pane of the wizard. Click Start/Next to proceed to the first step of the calibration.
  5. Perform the first measurement of the calibration.
    1. Connect the hardware as shown in the connection diagram that appears in the window.
    2. Click Measure to perform the calibration measurement.
The display pane shows the results of the calibration measurement for debugging and monitoring purposes. Use the cursor to get scalar values for the desired frequency step.
    3. Click Start/Next to proceed to the next step in the calibration process.
  6. Repeat the substeps of step 5 to perform the remaining calibration measurements.
  7. Click Next to calculate the error network and save it to the calibration file.
  8. Click Stop to exit the Calibration wizard.
If you modify any hardware parameters in the Calibration wizard, the wizard prompts you to commit the changes to the main panel. The wizard generates and loads the new calibration file into the interactive example. Refer to Converting Calibration Kit Characterizations to SNP Format for more information about the calibration file.
