Downloading the EtherCAT Slave Device Firmware

Caution Caution  This operation may damage or destroy the EtherCAT slave device. Read the device manual and consult your device vendor before performing this operation.
Note Note  Before you perform this operation you must obtain the slave device firmware from the device vendor.

Follow these steps to download the EtherCAT slave device firmware to upgrade the EtherCAT slave device:

  1. Right-click the EtherCAT slave device item and select Online Device State to display the Online Slave Device State dialog box and switch to the EtherCAT:Online:State page.
    Note Note  If the Online Device State menu is disabled, check the following items:
    • Be sure the target controller and slave device are connected.
    • Be sure the target item in the project has the correct IP address.
    • Be sure the EtherCAT master item has the correct adapter. You can change the physical adapter on the General page of the EtherCAT Master Properties dialog box.
    • Be sure you have deployed the master settings by right-clicking the master item and selecting the Deploy menu.
  2. Click Change to Bootstrap to change the slave device mode to Bootstrap.
    Note Note  Before downloading firmware, you should change the scan engine to Configuration mode by right-clicking the controller item and selecting Utilities»Scan Engine Mode»Switch to Configuration.
  3. Click Download Firmware to display the Download Firmware dialog box.
    Note Note  You can also use this dialog box to download a precompiled FPGA bitfile to the FPGA target item under the NI 9145 item.
  4. Select the firmware file and click Download. The firmware download may take several seconds.
