Getting Started with the Data Record System
Receiving the Data Record
System
When the Data Record System shipping box arrives at the facility, store the box indoors in an area that meets the following conditions:
Ambient Temperature | -40 °C to 71 °C (-40.0 °F to 159.8 °F) |
Relative Humidity | 5% to 95%, non-condensing |
Pollution Degree | 2 |
Maximum Altitude | 2,000 m |
The Data Record System shipping box has the following dimensions and maximum weight:
Specification | PXIe-1092DC Shipping Box | PXIe-1095DC Shipping Box |
---|---|---|
Width | 650 mm (25.6 in.) | 770 mm (30.3 in.) |
Depth | 320 mm (12.6 in.) | 590 mm (23.2 in.) |
Height | 500 mm (19.7 in.) | 590 mm (23.2 in.) |
Maximum Weight, Including Data Record System[1] | 16.0 kg (35.3 lb) | 24.3 kg (53.6 lb) |
Unpacking the Data Record
System
- Carefully inspect the shipping container and the chassis for damage.
- Check for visible damage to the metal work.
- Check to make sure all handles, hardware, and switches are undamaged.
- Inspect the interior of the chassis for any possible damage, debris, or detached components.
- If damage appears to have been caused during shipment, file a claim with the carrier.
- Retain the packing material for possible inspection and/or reshipment.
Setting Up the Data Record
System
Refer to the following tasks to set up the Data Record System.
Assembling the Power Cable
Equipment
- Flathead screwdriver
-
Insert the exposed ends of your power cable into the correct terminals of the
external power connector. Refer to the following pinout for positive and
negative terminal information:
Figure 3. DC Power Supply Input Pinout
- Negative terminal
- Positive terminal
- Torque the screw terminals on the external power connector to 1.7 N · m (15 lb · in.) using the flathead screwdriver to secure the power cable to the external power connector.
-
Insert the external power connector into the DC power supply as shown in the
following figure:
Figure 4. DC Power Supply External Connector
- Power supply external connector
- Torque the locking screws to 0.3 N · m (2.7 lb · in.) using the flathead screwdriver to secure the external power connector to the DC power supply.
- Strain relieve the power cable as described in Connecting Instrument Cables.
Connecting Instrument Cables
Connect instrument cables to the Data Record System as defined in the documentation for that instrument. Strain relieve each instrument cable by ensuring that it is not bent sharply near its connector. NI recommends fastening cables to something rigid near their connectors to minimize excessive wear or damage.
Verifying System Configuration
To verify your system configuration, you can run a report in NI Measurement & Automation Explorer (MAX) to generate a list of detected hardware components. Compare the results to your system configuration file to ensure all expected components are present.
Installing the Data Record
System in a Vehicle
Adhere to the following vehicle and rack mount guidelines to install the Data Record System in a vehicle. Consult your integrator about additional installation guidelines for your specific application.
Vehicle Requirements
Use the following guidelines to ensure your vehicle meets the Data Record System installation requirements:
- Adhere to the ventilation and shock and vibration requirements listed in the Data Record System AD Specifications.
- If you are using a system enclosure with the Data Record System, verify that the dimensions of the enclosure do not exceed the available space inside the vehicle.
Installing a Rack Mount Kit
Rack mount applications require optional rack mount kits available from NI. Refer to the instructions supplied with your rack mount kit to install your chassis in an instrument rack.
- Ensure the air intake temperature of all components is at or below the maximum specified intake temperature for your application environment.
- Ensure that relative humidity does not exceed 10% to 90%, noncondensing.
Setting Up RAID Storage
If you are using the PXIe-8267 as in-chassis storage, you can configure the instrument using the Windows utilities for disk configuration.
Powering on the Data Record
System
Complete the following steps to power on the Data Record System:
- Press the power inhibit button on the chassis.
- Verify the LED indicator is solid green.
Bringing Up the Data Record
System
- Configure instrument parameters in NI Measurement & Automation Explorer (MAX).
- Configure instrument names in MAX.
- Configure the system software.
Software Installation
You can install software for your system through NI Package Manager or the Data Record AD GitHub Repository at https://www.ni.com/r/datarecord-devguide.
The Data Record System may require additional software depending on your configuration and integration. Install any necessary third-party software on the controller as well as any additional instrument drivers before completing bring up.
Refer to the readme for the software you are installing for installation instructions and more information about additional required software.
Activating Your Software
Use the NI License Manager to activate Data Record AD. The Configuration Editor, the Plug-In Creation Toolkit, and the Visualization Toolkit do not require activation. If you already activated Data Record AD as part of the installation process, you can skip this task.
- Launch NI License Manager.
- Under the Product Summary View, select the Data Record AD software.
- Click Activate Software.
- Enter the serial number listed on the Certificate of Ownership that shipped with your system and click ACTIVATE.
For more information about Data Record AD activation, refer to ni.com/r/licmgrman.
Verifying System Functionality
- Verify that Data Record AD launches after powering on the system.
- Launch the Data Record AD User Interface.
-
Run the example system configuration file, located in the
%Public%\Documents\National Instruments\ADAS\Example
Configs directory.
Note You can copy the system configuration file into %Public%\Documents\National Instruments\ADAS\Config to avoid accidentally overwriting it.
Completing Bring Up
-
If you want to use a previously built system configuration, place the
appropriate configuration files in the following locations in the
%Public%\Documents\National Instruments\ADAS
directory and complete the steps listed in Importing Existing Configurations.
- For configuration files, navigate to %Public%\Documents\National Instruments\ADAS\Config
- For UI plug-ins, navigate to %Public%\Documents\National Instruments\ADAS\Plugins\UIPlugins
- For I/O plug-ins, navigate to %Public%\Documents\National Instruments\ADAS\Plugins\IOPlugins
- Dispose of the Data Record System shipping box.
