APS-4158/4159 Specifications
Definitions
Warranted specifications describe the performance of a model under stated operating conditions and are covered by the model warranty.
Characteristics describe values that are relevant to the use of the model under stated operating conditions but are not covered by the model warranty.
- Typical specifications describe the performance met by a majority of models.
- Nominal specifications describe an attribute that is based on design, conformance testing, or supplemental testing.
- Measured specifications describe the measured performance of a representative model.
Specifications are Warranted unless otherwise noted.
Electrical
AC Input
Input voltage rating[1]1 Care must be taken to not exceed the current rating of the branch circuit providing power to the product. The APS-4159 has two internal power supply modules with individual AC inputs. Depending on the AC mains voltage, these dual supplies may need to be powered by separate branch circuits in high-power applications. | 100 V AC to 240 V AC, 50/60 Hz, 15 A to 7.5 A |
Operating voltage range[2]2 The operating range is guaranteed by design. | 90 V AC to 264 V AC |
Nominal input frequency | 50 Hz/60 Hz |
Operating frequency range | 47 Hz to 63 Hz |
Efficiency | 85% typical |
Overcurrent protection | Internal fuse in line |
Main power disconnect | The AC power cables provide main power disconnect. Do not position the equipment so that it is difficult to disconnect the power cord(s). The front panel power switch controls the internal power source(s) used to provide DC power to the output ports. The rear panel 15-pin remote control connector can also be used to control the internal power source(s). |

DC
Output
DC output characteristics of an individual APS-4158/APS-4159 output port.
Output Voltage[3]3 Output voltage specifications apply at the output of cables approved for use with the APS-4158/APS-4159, and include the effects of initial tolerance, temperature drift, load regulation/cable resistive losses at maximum rated load current. | 45.6 V DC to 50.4 V DC |
Maximum Load Current | 15 A |
Ripple and Noise[4]4 Measured at the end of the auxiliary power cable with 10 µF electrolytic and 0.1 µF ceramic capacitor, 20 MHz bandwidth. | ≤480 mVpeak-to-peak (typical), ≤720 mVpeak-to-peak (maximum) |

Performing a more detailed auxiliary power budget can allow better utilization of the auxiliary power supply. Refer to the specifications and user manuals of individual auxiliary powered modules for details on module power requirements and power budgeting guidance.
Remote Control
Input voltage range | 0 V to 3.3 V, typical |
Input impedance | High-Z (>10 kΩ, typical, to internal +3.3 V rail) |
VIH_min | 2 V |
VIL_max | 0.8 V |
Output voltage range | 0 V to 3.3 V, typical |
Output impedance | 65 Ω, typical |
VOH_min | 2.4 V (|IOH | <8 mA) |
VOL_max | 0.4 V (|IOL | <8 mA) |

Depending on the fault condition one or more of the following recovery mechanisms must be used:
- Port Cable Detect Cycle—A port cable detect cycle is performed by physically unplugging the cable from the APS-4158/APS-4159 port for at least 1 second and then reconnecting the cable. Cycling the port cable detect clears recoverable errors on the port and reenables the port without impacting other ports.
- Soft Reset—A soft reset is performed when the power button is held for at least 5 seconds and then released while the APS-4158/APS-4159 is in the active state. A soft reset clears recoverable port faults and reenables ports without impacting active ports that are not in a fault condition.
- Soft Power Cycle—A soft power cycle is performed by pressing the front panel power button while the APS-4158/APS-4159 is in the active state to place the unit in the standby state and then pressing the button again to return to the active state. A soft power cycle results in all ports being disabled while in the standby state which will trigger error responses on any modules connected to output ports of the unit.
- Hard Power Cycle—A hard power cycle is performed by removing all AC power input from the APS-4158/APS-4159, waiting at least 15 seconds, then reconnecting AC power input and pressing the front panel power button to return the unit to the active state.
The dual internal power supply modules of the APS-4159 operate redundantly. If one supply is in the FAULT state, the other supply can continue to operate as long as input/output conditions for that supply do not also force it into a FAULT state. The front panel Status LED will indicate ALERT state when one supply is in FAULT and the other is operating normally. Ports are not disabled unless both supplies are in the FAULT state.
The APS-4158 has a single internal power supply. The front panel Status LED will indicate ALERT/FAULT status when the rear panel LED of the power supply is indicating ALERT/FAULT status.
Cooling
Cooling method | Forced air circulation through two integrated fans per internal power supply module |
Intake | Rear of chassis |
Exhaust | Left side of chassis |
Required chassis orientation | Horizontal only |
