What Can I Do with TestStand?

Production test is all about throughput, and TestStand helps engineers and organizations test at scale, faster.

TestStand not only accelerates test system development but also test execution and deployment. Interactively build and organize test sequences, then monitor execution to identify bottlenecks, and package sequences for deployment to your manufacturing floor.

  • Shorten test time with tools for performance monitoring and parallel testing
  • Track test results with automatic report generationand save to local or network databases in a variety of formats such as HTML, XML, ATML, and ASCII (text)
  • Use operator interfaces to simplify execution for technicians
  • Create packages to deploy sequences to your entire fleet of testers
Engineer using NI TestStand on a desktop computer in a production test lab, building and monitoring automated test sequences to improve throughput, track results, and deploy tests across manufacturing systems.

TestStand helps engineers ensure that every requirement gets tested and be ready to adapt quickly to changes in development.

Engineers meet test coverage with TestStand. Users add all their test steps and test every parameter. Then, they can review results with customizable, automatically generated reports and use debugging tools to step through execution and troubleshoot performance.

  • Add and reorganize test steps with a mouse click
  • Use test code from a variety of common programming languages such as NI LabVIEW, C/C++, .NET, and Python.
  • Automatic report generation to document and share results with colleagues
  • Increase test coverage with built-in sweep loops
  • Investigate unexpected behavior with integrated debugging tools

Example Diagram of a TestStand Application

This diagram shows how TestStand is used to build a test sequence. Users can organize code modules from various programming languages to run in a desired order. In the environment, users can set report generation settings, track unit numbers or serial numbers, and improve execution with parallel testing. Then, package sequences for deployment to testers.

TestStand Features and Benefits

Multi-Language Sequences

TestStand accelerates test system development with a ready, flexible framework for sequencing measurements. Users can intuitively build and configure their series of test steps from existing code written in common programming languages.

  • Sequence editor—TestStand provides an interactive environment to build your test sequence and more clearly visualize execution flow. Drag and drop to add and reorganize test steps, and implement conditional logic to modify sequence flow.
  • Module adapters—TestStand includes adapters to call code modules written in LabVIEW, C/C++, .NET, and Python, increasing code re-use and eliminating rework. Each adapter provides a direct interface for passing parameters handling return values and managing execution settings.
  • Debugging tools—Set breakpoints and step through sequence code with integrated tools that connect to your development environment. Minimize your time spent debugging with faster insights.

Increased Production Throughput

TestStand helps engineers test more in less time. Users can reduce their overall test time and prevent costly additional equipment purchases by executing tests in parallel.

  • Parallel execution—Go from single-unit to multi-unit parallel tests with TestStand. This architecture typically requires hundreds of hours of development—but with TestStand, it’s ready out of the box.
  • Auto-scheduling resources—Maximize hardware utilization and increase test efficiency with automatic resource scheduling. During sequence execution, TestStand will initiate test steps once equipment is available.
