NI-KAL interfaces between the Linux kernel and NI driver software or application software installed on your machine.
NI-KAL is driver software that supports the Linux driver architecture. With this software, NI software can function with multiple versions of the Linux kernel by compiling the driver against the Linux kernel when it is installed. The software provides a kernel abstraction layer that works between the driver framework and Linux, abstracts differences between kernel versions, and centralizes all Linux kernel function calls. You also can use NI-KAL as a module packaging generator or a module build system.
